phone-codesonboardingsms
For depot workers who have no company email. They sign in with their mobile number and a code we send by SMS. Live since 26 May. Product page: Phone-code sign-in.
Set up
- Turn phone codes on for the organisation: portal, Settings › Sign-in › Phone codes.
- Give each worker a mobile number in international format (+44 7700 900123, not 07700 900123). The portal refuses anything else.
- Set the worker's sign-in to Phone code, in the portal or with the
sign_incolumn of the people import. - Tell workers: open the sign-in page, choose "Sign in with a code", type their number, type the code from the SMS.
What workers see
- A six-digit code by SMS from "ACME", valid for 10 minutes.
- Five wrong codes and they wait 15 minutes. Since 10 September repeated failures also count towards the sign-in lockout; an administrator can unlock someone in the portal.
Things that go wrong
| Symptom | Usually | Do |
|---|---|---|
| No SMS arrives | Number saved without the country code | Fix the number |
| No SMS for anyone | Textbridge trouble | Check the status page; support raises it with engineering (runbook) |
| Two workers, one phone | One number belongs to one person | The second worker needs their own number or a password |
| Worker moves to single sign-on | They now have a company account | Change their sign-in; phone codes are untouched by a depot's single sign-on switch |
Where it is used
Greenhollow Dairy (pilot in May), Northgate's site workers (June), Kelderby's agency drivers (October).
