The words we use for our product and our customers. They match the Landscape in Emargen, which Ana keeps; change both together.
Our systems
| Word | Means |
|---|
| identity-service | Signs people in, with a password or through their company's single sign-on, keeps the roles they hold at each depot, and sends every access request to whoever may approve it. |
| Approval routing | The part of identity-service that sends an access request to whoever holds the approver's role at its depot. When nobody holds the role, the request waits unassigned. |
| portal | The customer's admin portal: administrators manage people, roles and depots there, and approvers decide access requests. |
| Approvals inbox | Where approvers find the access requests waiting on them. Administrators also see All requests: every waiting request in their organisation. |
| Access report | The portal's report of who can open what. Administrators export it as a PDF. |
| notifier | Sends ACME's email and in-app notices: a request waiting for its approver, a decision made, single sign-on switched on for a depot. |
| Entra ID | Microsoft's sign-in service. Customers connect it to identity-service over SAML, so their people sign in with their own accounts. |
| Okta | Another company sign-in service we support over SAML, since June 2026 (Vossberg, Ridgeway). |
People at a customer
| Word | Means |
|---|
| Administrator | Someone at a customer who runs their organisation in the portal: people, roles, depots and single sign-on. Can approve any waiting request under All requests. |
| Depot manager | Runs one of a customer's depots and approves the access requests of its people. |
| Site manager | Runs one of a food customer's sites. A site counts as a depot, so a site manager approves their own people's access as a depot manager does. |
| Team manager | Runs one team within a depot, below its depot manager. |
| Depot worker | Someone who works at a depot and asks for access to its doors, systems and vehicles. Drivers and warehouse workers. |
Access
| Word | Means |
|---|
| Depot | One of a customer's places where people work: a warehouse or a hub, at a food company a site. Single sign-on and approvals are set up depot by depot. |
| Home depot | The one depot a person belongs to. Their requests go to its approver. |
| Access request | Someone asking for access to a depot's doors or systems. It waits for an approver, who grants it or turns it down. |
| Approver | Whoever holds the role an access request is sent to at its depot, usually its depot manager. When nobody does, the request waits unassigned. |
| All requests | Every waiting request in an organisation, for its administrators. |
| Request bundle | A preset set of access asked for together, such as forklift and yard gate. |
Sign-in
| Word | Means |
|---|
| Single sign-on | People sign in with their own company's account, such as Entra ID, instead of an ACME password. It is switched on one depot at a time. |
| Phone code | A six-digit code by SMS, for depot workers without a company email. |
| Rehearsal | Signing a depot's test account in before its single sign-on switch. |
Customers
| Word | Means |
|---|
| Client | What the code calls a customer organisation. Say "customer" to people. |
| Region | Where a customer's data and backups are kept: EU, UK or US. Chosen once, at onboarding. |
| Data residency | Where a customer's data is stored and processed. Halden Foods needs theirs kept in the EU. |
| Go-live | The day a customer's people start using ACME for real. Before it, each depot rehearses. |
| Security questionnaire | A customer's list of questions about how ACME keeps their data and sign-ins safe, answered before they sign or renew. |
ACME's teams
| Word | Means |
|---|
| Customer success | Looks after customers once they sign: their go-live, their questions and what we tell them. Ana Ruiz leads it. |
| Support | Answers customers' requests, which arrive as Jira issues in the SUP project. |
| Sales engineer | Answers a customer's technical questions before they sign or renew, such as a security questionnaire. Tom Weber is ours. |
