Why
Requests waited because nobody looked. An approver got one email when a request arrived, and nothing after.
What we built
- A reminder 24 hours after a request starts waiting, then one a day, until it is decided or closes after 14 days.
- One reminder a day per approver, listing every request still waiting on them, oldest first.
- To whoever the request waits on. Until 1 October that was always the administrators; since then it is the approver for the person's home depot, or the administrators when the depot has none.
- By email and, since 4 August, in the portal's notices. An approver who turned emails off gets the in-app reminder only.
What we left out
- Reminding anyone else (the person who asked, or a manager's manager).
- Changing the timings per customer. Nobody asked for different ones.
Open
- A request still closes after 14 days without a word to anyone. A last reminder two days before it closes was suggested in October; it isn't planned.
